100 amp to 200 amp panel and service upgrades

A 200 amp service upgrade is two different jobs. Overhead work, mostly with Toronto Hydro, starts around $3,500 and runs to about $4,500. Alectra underground upgrades start around $3,200. The utility's own connect and disconnect fee is not in our price.

What to expect

  • We book the utility

    We request and book the disconnect and reconnect for you. You do not have to stand in the utility queue. Their fee, if there is one, is still theirs.

  • Toronto Hydro, Alectra, Hydro One

    Toronto Hydro charges a connect and disconnect fee on overhead work, and the customer pays it. Most of the time Alectra does not charge when 200 amps is already at the meter. Hydro One is often free on the first visit when an underground 200 amp service is already there, and may charge if they have to return.

  • What we need from you

    Photos of the panel and the outdoor meter base, the run distance, and a photo of the utility bill. The bill has the account holder's legal name, which the utility request needs.

  • Fuse boxes too

    Replacing an old fuse box is part of this work when the service is being brought up to a modern panel. The quote spells out the gear and the utility visit.

What does the utility charge?

We book the disconnect and reconnect. The utility's own fee is not in our price, and we tell you roughly what it is. Alectra usually does not charge when the service is already ready. We do not print a Toronto Hydro dollar figure here until that fee is confirmed in writing.

Why would I upgrade?

An EV charger, a heat pump, a renovation, or an insurer asking for a modern panel. Tell us which one it is. The reason changes the rest of the quote.

Overhead or underground?

Overhead is the usual Toronto Hydro job and often means a new mast. Underground is the usual Alectra job, and a meter-base change is part of the current work, which is why the old lower prices no longer apply.
